Composite Veneer Feels Wiggly

Main Post:

Had 4 composite veneers finalized only two days ago, figured it would be a good option until I upgrade to porcelain in a few years.

I do have a moderate overbite, and when I bite I do feel that I hit the back of my veneers first. I also feel that I have an abnormally strong bite, and may bite down in my sleep.

Anyway, today I realized there is a very slight wiggle in 3 of them. I was curious, what are some possibilities that could be causing this? I am going to book back into dentist to have them look, however I am worried in the meantime:

Could the impact from my bite be causing my actual tooth to come loose or causing serious damage. Is this a possibility, or it more likely my composite veneer that is coming loose?

Top Comment:

The teeth are held in place by a ligament that surrounds the root of the tooth. If you are biting heavily against those teeth the ligament will stretch in response and the teeth will feel "wiggly". Go back and have the dentist adjust your bite, avoid chewing with your front teeth for a week and they will return to normal.

Recommend: Dentist for Veneers

Main Post:

Hi! Caan anyone here recommend a good dentist for veneers? Better if you can also provide the price per tooth. Thank you!

Apostol Dental I believe specializes in cosmetic dentistry like veneers. I haven’t tried them but that’s where I’m going to go in the future pag nakapag ipon na. Their price per tooth ranges from I think 7.5k - 15k (they gave me an estimate price before) ?? Depending on the type of veneers you want. You can check their IG for their works :)

Those with veneers, do you have any regrets?

Main Post: Those with veneers, do you have any regrets?

Top Comment: Teeth and dental work are like cars. Buy a “quality” brand, treat them well, and with regular servicing they might just last more than the average 10 year failure rate. Only difference is nobody expects a car to last a lifetime but people expect dental work to- even if they use and abuse their teeth more than their car. If you’re planning on doing veneers, understand that even with “no prep” designs, there will be irreversible changes to the structure underneath. Ideally find a dentist focused upon “minimally invasive” esthetic dentistry with an understanding of occlusion, and consider aligning your teeth as a first option prior to having your teeth prepped- even if it costs more. Who knows- you might even be happy with your appearance after straightening and only require minimal resin bonding.

Dear Reddit, I'm about to get Veneers, but I'm still no 100% sure. Is there anything I need to know?

Main Post:

The story is this, my teeth are perfect, except for my 4 front teeth. The two in the middle have a space and are somewhat cracked on the edges. the ones right next to them are two small, thus creating gaps. How much do veneers usually cost and what are the down falls or the positive side to having them?

Top Comment:

Veneers done right should be at least $1000 a piece if done at a cosmetic or prosthodontist expect about $2000 a tooth but they will be the best looking and matchable to your current teeth. The down fall is that once you get them your stuck with these the rest of your life. Part of the tooth is shaved down in order to accomodate the veneer. So if anything causes the veneer to break (think biting into something hard say an apple) your pretty much screwed and will need to have another veneer put on at your own expense. Remember veneers are usually just a thin piece of porcelain. You could also look into getting crowns for those teeth however most dentist won't do this since you have healthy teeth. Just be careful about the veneers since they are expensive and can break. But hell if you have disposable income go for it they do look great if done correctly. Hope this helps.

Has anyone gotten veneers ?

Main Post:

Thinking of getting some cosmetic dentistry, has anyone got any experience with this, how has it impacted your life ?

Top Comment: I was researching veneers as well as cosmetic bonding. I haven't gotten any yet but I did notice there's a name brand of veneers called Lumineers which look like piano keys. I'm guessing that's what Gary Busey has in his mouth.

Just got veneers and wondering if it's a big mistake. Any personal opinions out there?

Main Post:

So my teeth aren't straight and had gaps in them, unfortunately I could not get braces due to a severe metal allergy. For the past seven years I have had "filler material" covering the gaps, kind of acting like temporary veneers while I waited for my mouth and teeth to mature so I could get veneers. I finally got the front 6 teeth done, and I love how it looks. But the dentist filed so much of my teeth down (to even them out for the veneers) that I can never go back and Im stuck with veneers for life.
Now that it's done (of course), I'm mildly panicking that I took way too drastic of a measure and I should have just kept that filler stuff on (although it chipped easily and was hard to match up to my tooth color). Im nervous a tooth will break, or they will chip a lot, or my teeth will stay this sensitive etc. Has anyone gotten veneers and REGRETTED it, or on the other hand gotten them and LOVE them? Also, are there certain foods you can't/don't eat? I feel like they're so fragile and are going to snap off if i eat anything remotely hard.

Any input would be greatly appreciated... even if it's not positive!

Top Comment: Sounds like a little bit of buyer's remorse. You've had permanent tissue altered in an irreversible way, this is true! But the tradeoff is that your teeth now look really stellar. All you can do now is maintain them! Remember why you started this process in the first place, and take it one day at a time. Good luck!

AskReddit: Cosmetic dentistry: Have you had it? Is it worth it? (veneers in particular)

Main Post:

As a child I tripped running up the stairs and basically tried to take a bite out of the wooden step. I lost both my front teeth and I was front-tooth-free until about age 6. My front teeth grew in but there was a large gap between then, and they were a little bit "bucky" but I was assured on every visit to the dentist that they would grow together naturally and that I didn't need braces. Fast forward to today, turns out my dentist was an asshole and he ruined my life ( a little over dramatic, but I really do hate him). I'm 22 and my teeth are such a huge source of embarrassment and self-consciousness for me, to the point where I'm becoming isolated and unable to approach girls. I think I'm a pretty cool guy, and I don't afraid of much, but I truly feel unworthy of dating or relationships because of how my smile looks. It's all but impossible to find a picture where I have an open-mouth smile.

I recently got a new dentist (I moved) and I asked him about options, he said the only real option for me now would be porcelain veneers. Here is a picture of my current smile on the left, vs a rendering (probably not very accurate) of what my dentist thinks can be done. My teeth actually look worse than in the picture in reality as well. I'm told veneers will cost about $1000 a pop and that I would need at least 4 and that would only be for the top front teeth. I'm a student and it would be difficult but not impossible to pay this (student loans + work), but is it worth it? It would be better if I was working full time, but I feel like I'm missing out on so much at this point in my life that I don't think a little more debt would hurt. So, have you gotten veneers? How well did they turn out? Was it worth it? Anything I should know about, or any suggestions/cautions?

EDIT: Thanks for all the replies, I think I will seek out a consultation with an orthodontist and a cosmetic dentist specifically, since I may not be getting the information I need from my regular dentist.

EDIT 2: I actually feel more confident and happier just hearing peoples stories about how a nice smile has improved their lives, I'm off in search of a consultation first thing tomorrow! Well, maybe after I start my Christmas shopping....

Teeth Veneers: Are these people fucking crazy?

Main Post:

Call me way late but I just today learned about teeth veneers.

The way all those hollywood stars and adult film actresses etc. get their smile to look impossibly white is by having a dentist literally SHAVE OFF THE FRONT HALF OF THEIR TEETH, with, I don't know, a fucking sandblaster or something, in order to glue a piece of porcelain on in its place with special cement.

And apparently if the procedure goes wrong it's hell on earth -- damaged nerves, insane jaw pain, etc. etc. -- and the porcelain dealies have to be replaced every few years, and with a bad bonding job they can fall off, and if you don't like it too damn bad because thanks to the sand blaster the front half of your teeth are forever gone, you are Stumpy McHalfTeeth without your artificial mouth prostheses for life.

I guess this is just a rant, but what I want to know is, 1) are these people fucking insane? 2) Did anyone else wonder how the hell so many people could have teeth that white? and 3) Do dentists know that a lot of people who go in for simple whitening think they are getting the veneer look, when in truth it's implicit false advertising?

I knew cosmetic surgery was some wacky shit, but good grief...

I have enough porcelain in my piehole that if I ever run out of toothpaste, can use Toilet Duck just as well.

My front teeth were damaged due to a shitty orthodontist in the 1980's and also an insane OCD habit of nail biting. Yep, 5k to replace the four front teeth that tore the shit out of my fingers for years.

Even I don't understand the procdeure. If you have decent teeth, keep them. The vanity wears off; may as well have your perfectly good teeth ground down to nubs for a full on crown job.

I have four porcelain dental veneers. AMA

Main Post:

Since I was a kid, my teeth have never been straight. For some reason my parents got braces my older sister but not me (note for parents: Get your kids braces when they are young!).

Anyway, I have always hated my teeth, didn't like smiling. It was one of the few things I was very self conscious about. About six months ago I got four porcelain veneers placed on my top row. If anyone has questions, AMA.

I'm late to this thread. I have a question or two. I've been wanting four veneers on my front teeth; same as yours. My teeth are pretty straight; i've had braces, but my orthodontist just loves to file them down, so now they're really short.

Do they feel uncomfortable in your mouth? Like, do they slam into other teeth, causing more problems? Has that been an issue for you? I would imagine you would get used to the feeling eventually.

I think your teeth look fantastic by the way. Have you ever had anyone notice that they are 'different'? Can you notice the difference in color/shape in the mirror yourself?
